  1. This  disk  contains  Studio  Professional V2.08.  Version numbers
  2. shown by the programs on this disk may differ and are only updated
  3. in case the program itself was changed.

  5. This  file  contain  notes  about  changes made after printing the
  6. manual.   We  also  feel  that  it  is  your  right  to  have  the
  7. information about changes made to previous versions:

  11. Studio  now  supports  the  PNG  image  format  (PNG is pronounced
  12. "ping").   The  PNG  format  is  intended  to  provide a portable,
  13. legally unencumbered, well-compressed, well-specified standard for
  14. lossless bitmapped image files.  We hope PNG will soon replace the
  15. well  known  GIF  format.  Beside offering more features than GIF,
  16. PNG also offers a very good lossless compression.  We are sure PNG
  17. will  soon  become  a  well known standard beside JPEG/JFIF format
  18. used for lossy compression

  22.                      Installation problems?
  23.  
  24. Please  note that the Commodore installer sometimes shows problems
  25. with  various  other  sized system fonts.  Temporarily switch back
  26. your  system to the default Topaz 8 font for installation, in case
  27. the Installer doesn't show you all text in a proper format.
  28.  
  29. We  had  some  (6)  cases  of  bad devices/filesystems causing the
  30. installer  to  crash  during/after  installation.  Avoid these bad
  31. devices/filesystems  as  they are likely to cause other crashes on
  32. your system too.  This warning is especialy for Emplant users.  In
  33. most cases you are still able to install Studio after booting from
  34. a  orig.   Workbench  disk.   In  this  case, select "Expert" mode
  35. during  installation.   After  installation,  you  are required to
  36. setup the Studio driver manualy by either using the Preset menu of
  37. the installed driver preferences program.

  42.                        DESKJET NOTES
  43.  
  44. Dear Deskjet 660C/850C user.  This version of Studio was made with
  45. the  new  HP printers in mind.  However, we are working on further
  46. software  and  color  profiles  for these printers.  Please return
  47. your  registration  card.   We will ship you improved software for
  48. free  once  HP  is  able  to  ship developer units and we finished
  49. the development (release planned for July/August 95).
  50.  
  51. The  free  update  mainly  covers color adjustments.  You can also
  52. adjust the colors yourself if you don't like to wait.  The drivers
  53. already  support  the  new  printers with one minor tradeoff:  you
  54. can't  use  the advanced color mode of the Deskjet 850C.  A driver
  55. supporting the new color feature of the Deskjet 850C will be added
  56. beside the color adjustments.
  57.  
  58. WARNING:   The  current  drivers  are  able to print 600*600dpi in
  59. greyscale  mode.   Please note that the printer is unable to print
  60. 600*600dpi in color mode.  Don't try to print color in 600dpi mode
  61. (Density    2    or   6   with   the   600x600   option   set   in
  62. DeskPref/DeskPref4c) or you might mess-up your printer.

  64. In  order  to  print  600x600dpi,  set  the  600x600dpi  gadget in
  65. DeskPref/DeskPref4C.   This  will double the print resolution from
  66. Density 1, 2 and 6.  Use Desnity 2 or 6 for 600 dpi printing.

  72.                     STYLUS COLOR NOTES
  73.  
  74. Please  note  that  Studio  does output very good ESC/P2 code.  If
  75. your  Stylus  Color  printer  shows  stripes  in  the  output, try
  76. cleaning  your  print  head  several  times.  It's definitly not a
  77. problem  of  Studio.   We received several reports from users that
  78. turned  out  to  be  problems  with  bad  ink heads and mechanical
  79. reasons.
  80.  
  81. So,  clean your ink head several times as described in the printer
  82. manual.  In case this doesn't solve your problem, try using the PC
  83. calibration tool that comes with the Stylus Color.  We will try to
  84. ship  a similar calibration tool for Studio in the next upgrade if
  85. possible.
  86.  
  87. And  as a final note:  please note that stripes in the output also
  88. depend  on  the  printing  speed and the dither method used.  Some
  89. dither  methods  do  show  more  banding  than  others.  This is a
  90. general effect on all ink jet printers.

  94.                      Canon BJC and BJ
  95.  
  96. Different  to  the  manual,  Custom ResX and ResY defines the page
  97. size  for  the CanonBJ5-230 and CanonBJ-EC in 1/360inch.  The page
  98. size  does  include  the  unprintable  margins.   The  driver will
  99. automaticly  subtract  the margins for you.  The margins depend on
  100. the  printer  and  emulation  (Extended  Emulation offers a larger
  101. printable page size).

  103. Set the dip switch:

  105. Canon BJC 70:   Enable Epson emulation on the printer.
  106. Canon BJ  30:   Enable Epson emulation on the printer.
  107. Canon BJ 200ex: Enable BJ emulation on the printer. Turn AGM off.
  108.                 (for DIN A4 turn 1, 3 and 4 ON - the rest OFF).
  109.  
  110. Studio  now offers several profiles for the Canon BJC 70 and BJ 30
  111. printer.   Users  may  also  use  the BJC 4000 profiles with minor
  112. differences.
